Welcome to the cheapest webhosting in Australia
My name is Richard Law. I run a web design company based in Frankston Australia called Web Design Specialist. In the past 4+ years I have tried many different web hosting companies. Some are good and others are a complete liability to any business that dares host their website on them.
But how do you know which is which? Well let me save you some stress and time and financial upsets... here's what works for me and has done for well over 2 years now.
Australian v/s US Servers For some reason nearly all the low cost hosting companies use US based servers. They start from a incredibly cheap AU$40 PER YEAR.
I do know of one reliable Australian company that have their servers based in Melbourne Australia. The keyword is reliable. I also know of one other Melbourne based company with Australian servers that I would not recommend even to my worst enemy (well maybe to my worst enemy but not to anyone else .. ) so be careful.....
This same company also provides reliable low cost US based servers. Not the only ones to do this by any means; but they are the only company, of the many that I have personally tried, that I can confidently vouch for.
And the difference between US and Australian based server? Not a huge amount to be honest!
Australian Server: A site on an Aus based server will probably load faster for Australian websurfers and if you need access to the server to make site updates etc this will be faster as well. There is also the advantage that should an underwater data cable be dredged up in the Pacific severing or reducing the link between Australia and the rest of the world, this will have little effect on your site. ( this happens occasionally). The speed advantage is slight but noticable. It's worth paying a little extra for if you can.
US Based Servers: They are cheaper (how does AUS$40 a year sound?). Since an Australian based server may only offer a slight advantage speed wise then you may well be better off on a US server. Especially if you service a worldwide market rather than just and Australian one.
I use both depending on what is required.
You can see my recommendation in the area to the right.
